Pain is our ally
Have you ever consider pain as an ally instead of a nuisance that we have to avoid by all means? Western world regards pain as unnecessary evil, so when our body starts aching, we reach for medication. This medication that we take without giving it a second thought, it's meant to fix the problem quickly, so we can get on with our lives, our busy schedule. However, painkillers are not candies; if you read carefully the possible counter effects, you can read for a while. Possibility of addiction is also there. And all this, we dismiss in the name of a painless, quick fix. Don't misunderstand me here, I'm not talking about heavy conditions, which need serious treatment. I'm referring more to "everyday pains" like headaches, shoulder and neck pain, pain in the back etc. If we take a step back and see pain for what it is, we might have a better view of how our bodies work. Pain is a healthy signal of alarm. It's meant to direct our attention to the body part which is suffering. First we have to get to know our pain. Is it sharp, is it continuous, is it something that we have felt before? Do we understand how pain is provoked? Did we use our body in a strenuous way? Did we exaggerate? How is our life-style? Too much stress, bad posture, not enough exercise, too much food, food that gives us not enough nutriments? Pain is supposed to be our help; we need pain to see what we have to change in our lives. On an energetic level, physical pain is a manifestation of an energy imbalance. Life force, prana, ki, chi cannot flow undisturbed; there is a blockage that we have to ease, in order to restore health. Experiences, memories are stored in our bodies. Whatever we cannot "digest", process, stays closed and eventually if we ignore it can manifest as a blockage, illness. Our bodies are such intelligent, self-sufficient entities that need nothing more than clean air, water, fresh foods and physical exertion. When we are sensible to our body signals, we figure out what our body needs. If we mask the pain with repetitive medication, we lose this intimate relationship with our physical body. Believe me, that's a lot to lose.
